sketches

some new sketches from Graffiti to Raving, ideas from my Memory and Imagination for paintings i might do..
idea for a train exploding with colour, kinda like the explosion of colour you see on a train pieced or bombed, not chemically, but with paint, just graff ideas..
drawing female forms using techniques when you haven't got models..etc.
drawn from a mag, then went Bez style from the happy mondays, just drawing for a painting or too on the rave scene.
Drawing from memory in part about the raves north of Cardiff in the woods back in the lates 80's early 90's, the poilce would try to break us up, from dancing in the middle of the forest using about 30-40 poilce, while the city center would be a mess with fights pissed up people filling hosptals and all the shit booze used and still does to people, yeah people dropped MDMA and LSD, but there was never any fights or bad vibes, but rather than use the man power to poilce the city center, they where more intrested in stopping us just dancing, the money and man power used to stop raves whould be better put in the city with the shit booze causes. MP's know the drug war wont and is not winable but they havent the balls to stand up and say so, until they leave there jobs, Theres prob more Coke put away in Government and parliament than Colombia. Legalising drugs would loose to much money for there rich boy mates in big pharma, Oil, and other things going on, just look up drug deaths to ciggertte & booze deaths each year, its hard to find an unbiased view on that from Gov numbers though..
Things must change, prohibition in don't work, humans by nature, of us, have danced around fires and took mind changing substances for as long as mankind as been around, Raving is just a modern form of that.
I'll be here all day going on about it all and how hypocritical MP's and Tory government is..The rave scene was born out as part of the shit of years of Tory rule, lets hope something as big happens again, though raves are far from dead, just not in the media as much..
bit LSD trip like outline, you reach an age and want to revisit your youth.
Again found on the Strickly London Blog, This short film by Henry chalfant, of early Hip hop. with Graffiti writers, BBoy/BGirls, DJ's, & MC's.
Some fresh faced young legends of the scene here in this short video.
Everything about it is what attaracted me and my peers back in 84-85, From the Graff, Vibe, the Funk, Hip hop had back then, that sadly as gone from the music and vibe thats Rap music today, All the Bling and aggression is just boring and played out,
Maybe I'm older & I guess its attractive to young people living in poverty still, in the states and here. But these guys and the Generation before them set the standard without all that shit and negativity you get in rap today, to me rap died in the late 80's, apart from a select few crews out there, tuff crew, P.E, Rakim, etc...
anyway this video oozes education to what real hip hop culture was about before the money and bullshit stopped the party..
check out yourself, I'm so glad the likes of Henry Chalfant got involed in this culture and stayed involed, when he could of made his $ from Subway art and left with his dollar earned from the skills of these writers, from the book and style wars...

Anyway check the film..here..

One of the great things about graffiti and the web, is being able to exchange sketches, I Been meaning to post up some outlines from exchanges and pieces by writers that used an one of my outlines of there name to paint up, its really a buzz to see what they done, pure humbling, anyway receiving outlines from top old skool writers to new heads really makes my week. I hope 2013 will be busy in exchanges, requests etc..
Was pure and still is happy to get this by merc ACR from London, man was dropping panels etc, on the London Underground back in 86-87. still going on strong to this day..

cheers ..

Not posted for a while, But have to post these..
I will post a load of work very soon, As soon as I scan in my prep, sketches for ideas, and paintings..
I've ordered a pen to enable me to draw straight to my pc, nothing fancy or full of bells an whistles, just a cheap one to see if i like drawing with a pen straight to pc.
for working rough sketches and ideas and work compositions..
I'll invest in a better one when I'm able to afford a new computer or laptop next year some time.
Like many people, Xmas busted my savings, so new yea, new start.
Which brings me to my change from painting with Acrylic, I do like acrylic it as its place, just found it a pain with drying to quick, Esp when mixing colours with a palette knife, going back and finding the paint dried up or to tacky, also the colour shift, and layers of paint to get a decent colour, and i found some colours seemed to dry to disappointing washed out colours,
dont get me wrong acrylic has benefits, but i found painting with them frustrating at times, in fact I'd use lots of paint, but it still never has that punch oils can give you.
I'm not talking cheap acrylic too.
I've not used oils properly since art school, then it wasn't a alot as i was printmaking mainly.
So i've a lot to learn, but I'm happy with a painting i've just begun, working "alla prima" or wet on wet, instead of glazing, with another dedication to kase 2, Its how he overcome his disability's and rocked some of the best burners that inspire, also his personality he had, and a true style master general.
(I found an interview online I must add it here too)
With the painting I'm just going on as a go with it, mostly from imagination, including kase's likeness.
Its part of the subway series i'm painting.

Anyway I've spoke to much for now, Just want to add some work by Rmer and Hoxe. Starting with this Trackside T.shirt that are for sale on R'mers site.
He's done some dope canvases too, I'll add them very soon, as there too good IMO..

PS hope anybody reading a had a great Christmas & I wish you a dpe Year ahead. I know my diary is full work wise, with my ideas etc. I must take Kase 2's example and try to paint at least a silver..

anyway, more to come soon..
nice one!!!!!!!
ps i'll put a link follow that to Trackside & Rmers site where you can check, and purchase these shirsts, and Canvases etc..
pZ.

Thought Id post some Hoxe outlines, these are from 2007
Monsone Sketch by Hoxe, Love the Skroe hes put in the letters too, Genius.
Hoxe.
Just a quick sketch, Idea for a painting maybe? I'll post some more sketches soon, Ive had to get a new scanner printer. Which is/was prob a blessing in disguise, having to draw or paint from memory on my paintings and work, or look at a pc screen, rather than drawing straight from photocopy's/prints I've found inspiring..Speaking on which.Check this link from Henry Chalfant..

Must add this link of a seminar/talk by Henry Chalfant. Without the writers and him and Martha Cooper, I don't know what I would've become, Like wise everyone else inspired by Subway Art, and Style Wars....Whom inspire me/my work and my peers still to this day..
pZ..

Posting some old skool flicks, Cru, 1986, (Trowbridge estate) by Fina 64, ( Leroy) Blue 202, Seco, Myself, back in 86, still remember this day well, first we met up at Robbo's,.. ( not King Robbo of London, but (blue 202).. House, Leroy and Robbo where older than me, Anyway The TV was on in his house, suddenly the next thing i know there was hardcore porn on the TV!..They where doing a particle joke on me, Saying it was Channel 4's afternoon slot, lol, them days channel 4 was a new channel infamous for the sex and violence who was blighted by Mary Whitehouse consented moans, letters etc towards all channels, esp channel 4, as they used to show more edgy  programs. Harmless stuff really compared to TV these days,

Mary Whitehouse

She was a silly old busy body,& religious bigot that was famous for her views on British TV..she'd be turning in her grave with the TV now, lol..
Anyway ofcause the porn was from a VCR, but they had me going for a sec, though, I was young and Naive. Anyway the was done in carplan paint, nasty shit compared to today, full of lead and chemicals, smell was overpowering too, the caps esp when they changed them to a male valve system, was terrible. though we did'nt no any different them days.
the style of these letters very minimal was so fresh back then, Leroy did the outline on some clothing too, was really ground breaking, style wise back then imo ofcause....
 Jazeo ( Fina) Blue 202, 1985/ early 86.. Trowbride
Maeo, Trowbridge, 1989. Mao and Myself.
 Take one, Jodie, 1985-6
 Mao, Rak1, Mabe ( myself)
 AAD- Trowbridge 1988.
Coma, 1988, trackside where the bridge goes across the mainline near central station
CDT, (Community drug team) 1990's this was all dupi-colour, Mao, myself.
Pissed up CSC 1990s, done one night after they made this box illegal to paint on, (Criminal Saints Crew) Myself and Mao,- St.Mellons estate.
Maoh-Eaze, 1988, This was done at night..
Ghost fina blockbuster, 1985, with small stencils on top my Mao, we where using stencils back in the 80's, as where many writers across the uk.
It wasn't new to Graff, like some think..
I had to draw a blue line on top with photoshop, just think i should of left it now, it was a very early silver, in fact one of the first in Cardiff to my knowledge, though splott had writers/crews, and Ron was writing too, up Pontyridd/Valleys,...
To my knowledge, St.Mellons had the first Graff in the City, going back to 84, it had a healthy B.boy, DJ scene too.
DJ.Jaffa was a BBoy first then DJ. A lot of the old skool hip hop heads in the city whom are active or retired where from St.Mellons or used to hang around St.Mellons and Trowbridge Estate's back in the day!
I don't mean to come across arrogant though saying this but it was a healthy scene at this part of the city with many heads from and involved in the hip hop movement that time from here....

peace for now..

Graffiti is dead!, Canvas from a few years back
Untitled Seen an image from an old mag that had a feature about graffiti in London, I liked the image in the mag so used it in this painting..
some throw up styled letters on a bansky canvas i received as a gift.
an abstract type picture, the background reminded me of cans of spray paint, so ive got an idea of painting as many cans from differnt paint companys from all parts of the world.
 skroe canvas, mixed media.
W.I.P scru canvas with Bode style character (Top picture)

Bottom is another bode influenced, dreg killer that Hoxe, Rmer & myself did some years back..

Trouble Makers

Rek one, A.A.D.. (art after dark)
Just a quick update, I'll post some new work soon..Just a few old skool pieces that was in a BBC documentary we did back in 1993. I cant remember why we chose the word Rek as a piece, At the time, Like a lot of other writers, We where changing and using other tags a lot back then, due to BTP using data on tags to catch writers out.
Also back in them days, a lot of writers used to paint random words, as a lot of walls where done all together, like someone was on outline duty's, someone else on fill and someone on background, and characters etc, it was quicker too, also we didn't have the fat caps that you get today,  you had to use the stock caps on the paint, also we would steal caps from other aerosol products from DIY stores, Halfords and other shops, .. etc

Man I must laugh at how bad this character was, totally crap, lol

Maoh, (mao) Eaze,(skroe) silvas, side facing (3D) blocking was a must back then, late 80's
unfinished A.A.D, done on one of the coldest days ever, paint was freezing up, and hands where completely useless, every writer as been in the same situation, when your hands become so cold you cant press the cap..lol
Coma, trackside silva/throw up back in 88, Spectra chrome and red oxcide, This was done by my uncle, who was my mentor I guess, Him and Fina64/Finaoutline (twice) started painting in 84, basically I seen their pieces, tags all around the estate we lived in, I would catch their new stuff on my way to school, used to love seeing new walls thats where fresh from the night before.. This was before I ever seen subway art.
I remember this was a daytime wall, as he used to rack so much paint from halfords in town with a goose jacket on, often going back for second helpings, then it was only a short walk to the tracks to paint..
Though it was on the mainline to London, and very close to Cardiff Central Station, the trains ran real slow right by here, coming in and out of the city.. it was a good spot not too close to the track that you would miss it, or to far away..he used to paint all his pieces big and fat, perfect for tracksides.. This wasn't as big compared to his larger throwups/ chromies or dubs as some writers call them, due to the spot being a little closer to the tracks trains..
If a spot was a bit further back from the lines, it was nothing for him to fill the whole inside of a bridge, making us use ladders to paint above him..
These where great days, when you're young and carefree, Graffiti was more of a full time activity and obsession back then..
A lot of graffiti back then wasn't photographed by us, not like today where everything is ducumented by writers or people that like graff with cameras on phones, geez the phones back then where huge brick like, and extremely expensive, we never thought that in 20-25+ years in the future there would be the internet with blogs, websites etc.
The flicks we did take or where shot by other people where lost over time or where took in raids by BTP we never seen them flicks after the court cases, I'm told there's a vault or something where bties keep  albums/blackbooks etc from writers, imagine all the flicks they have..

nice one..
