Been pretty ill lately, But have managed to do a few quick sketches, just a few here, in no order a rave sketch, profile drawing and B.Boy. I love how Breakdancers move, We the visual artists express our selfs in art, letterforms with graff, These guy express the whole body with funk!
Back in the day when I got into graffiti. When the whole Hip hop scene exploded at these shores back in the early-to mid 80's. Everybody seemed to involve into each element of the scene, Your rocked with your Tag if you became a writer, your rocked with your skills and made music from music if you became a DJ. You rocked with words and rhymes like a poet, if you became a MC.
And you rocked your body if you became a B.Boy/Girl.
Everybody seemed to try all at some point but you soon found out which part of this new movement you became, I couldn't dance but loved seeing Uprocks and Battles at the StMellons education centre, Infact there where battles held there between different crews from different parts of the city. I remember the Beat box or Boom box, that was used back then like yesterday, they used to give out amazing sound, Pure Bass..Heres a Video about the history about them.. everybody wanted them for Christmas, or birthdays if you where lucky.
People would customize there own boxes, The bigger the bassbins the better, Them things sucked battery's like no tomorrow if the lino was put down in the street.
In St. Mellon's the Lino was bombed with all our tags.
In School, we had a section of the school called B.Block hall where there was a wooden stage, behind that where old changing Rooms.. during break-time or between lessons People would rock a few windmills to mini battles.
I was never a dancer though some people could Dance, DJ Jaffa was a dope Dancer. Hoxe was a dancer too, and can DJ also..
I was envious of people that could do both things.
It was a great time though. I need to post some more old skool, and some storys about the old days, From local to U.K. history soon..
